Most of the popular cryptocurrencies today are mined using expensive equipment like graphics cards and demand a very large amount of electricity to perform the calculations needed to win a block reward. SHIBgreen differs from these types of blockchains because we use a Proof of Space and Time algorithm.
The PoST algorithm works by checking file storage plots you have created and stored on hard drive space. The SHIBgreen blockchain produces a number, and the farmer with the plot closest to that number wins the block reward. On average, a plot will take around 100GB. This can vary depending on which plot size you choose to make. Most go with plot size K32. Plotting can be achieved either through the GUI, CLI, or with a 3rd party program called MADMAX.
If you are in a hurry, using SSD’s as your temporary drives for plotting can help speed things up a bit. Please see "resources" for more information on plotting.
Once you have created your plots, it is time to start farming them. This is done by connecting your farmer to your plots and adding the plot directory to the farmer. Farming the plots can be a bit of a lottery. The more plots and hard drive space you allocate, the better your chances are to win.
SHIBgreen’s netspace is over 700 PIB, so if you only have a few plots, it will be sometime before you win a block.
We recommend trying to use some older equipment for your farm so the start-up cost will be lower. High-grade, expensive equipment is not needed to farm SHIBgreen. You can definitely get by on used hard drives and computers.
